Notre Dame tops NCAA Recruiting Scoop’s 2008 Team Recruiting Performance List
Got to say that it was a real bad season for the Irish on the football field. In fact, even the Irish hecklers would probably have to admit that they never saw it going this wrong. Still, on the recruiting front it has been a different story for Weis and the gang. Along with that, the Irish continue to hold onto the top spot in our 2008 recruiting rankings. But don’t look now because there are some teams from the SEC hot on their trail. Or is it their tail?
How does the saying go? It ain’t over till it’s over. Well, when it comes to the 2008 college football recruiting season, never were truer words spoken. Still, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Charlie Weis continue to hold onto NCAA Recruiting Scoop’s top recruiting spot as of today (12/9/07).
Here are the stats: Notre Dame has secured two 5 star commits, 15 four star commits, and four 3 star commits. Pretty impressive considering they lost to Air Force and Navy this season, isn’t it?
The interesting thing is that we don’t use a computer scoring system to make our decisions. No way: That’s for the big boys like Rivals. Instead, we simply look at which recruits have committed and make a determination. Fact is that the Georgia Bulldogs and head coach Mark Richt are hot on the tail of these Irish. One more big pickup and they could overtake them. Alabama is also close. But right now, despite the fact that Georgia has one more committed five star recruit, Notre Dame is still in the lead. The reason?
Their four star prospects are awful strong.
Enough about the four stars, however. Let’s look into the Irish’s five stars for a little while. In fact, let’s start with their highest rated commit. The name? Dayne Crist. The position?
Quarterback. You’ll hear about him in greater detail with our next post.

[...] Boy that tight end Mark Bavaro was something when he played for the New York Football Giants. First, he was an outstanding blocker, really a cut above. Second, he had excellent hands. Third, well, let’s face it: He was about as hard to bring down as a Mack Truck and the reality was that running into him was only slightly less alarming. Interestingly, just like nearly every other NFL player, Bavaro once went to college. In fact, he was an All American tight end for the University of Notre Dame. [...]
