Grant Mayes, a 6 foot, 178 pound cornerback from West Orange, New Jersey (Seton Hall Prep) has verbally committed to play for the Syracuse Orange in 2008. Mayes accrued 40 tackles and five interceptions last season in high school, and this along with his 4.4 speed has him falling in at number 36 on Rivals 2008 cornerbacks list.

In the end, Mayes chose Syracuse over Rutgers, Temple, Tennessee, Cincinnati, BC, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan State, and Rutgers.
