Dan McCarthy commits to the Irish

by

Dan McCarthy, a 6-foot-2, 190 pound safety with 4.5 speed, has committed to play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. McCarthy (from Youngstown, Ohio: Cardinal Mooney) is the 12th ranked 2008 safety in the country for several reasons:

First, he’s strong for a safety (benches 280 and squats 435). Second, he’s smart (3.8 GPA). And last, he’s productive (McCarthy accumulated 112 tackles, 7 sacks, and 2 interceptions last season in high school).

In the end, there were plenty of teams vying for McCarthy’s services, but it really came down to the Irish and Ohio State. By getting McCarthy to come over, the Irish have strengthened an already powerful 2008 recruiting class (the best of 2008 thus far according to NCAA Recruiting Scoop).
