Corey Liuget commits to Illinois
Illinois fans just love Ron Zook and his ability to recruit. Of course, he didn’t have to follow a living legend there, which always helps.
Corey Liuget, a 6-foot-3, 260 pound four star weakside defensive end from Hialeah, Florida (Hialeah High School) that runs the 40 in 4.8 seconds has verbally committed to play for Illinois next season.
Last season in high school, Liuget managed 55 total tackles and six sacks. Along with this, he’s considered the eighth best weakside defensive end prospect of 2008. Further, it’s believed that he’s the 25th best 2008 football prospect in the state of Florida.
Landing that high on a list in Florida is never a bad thing.
In the end, Liuget chose the Fighting Illini over the Miami of Florida Hurricanes, Michigan Wolverines, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, South Carolina Gamecocks, University of Central Florida Knights, Auburn Tigers, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, and Georgia Bulldogs. Not bad company to keep.
Which brings us to another point. Illinois head coach Ron Zook is one amazing recruiter. Liuget represents the fourth four star prospect to choose Illinois, joining fellow commits Donsay Hardeman (DB), Deries Hodge (RB), and Graham Pocic (OL). Further, the Zooker’s reach is pretty amazing as well. The 14 players that have verbally committed to play for him next season are from eight different states.
Trying to remember if Illinois used to recruit this well before the Zooker came along. Then again, I may have just written that sentence because I enjoy writing the word ‘Zooker’.
Hard to know. Here it is one more time, though. Zooker.
