Here’s the thing. If you can bench over 250 pounds you have some strength. If you can bench over 300 pounds you’re downright strong. But when you break that 350 pound mark, you’re a beast. So what does that make Notre Dame commit Sean Cwynar?

Sean Cwynar is a 6-foot-4, 284 pound defensive tackle from Woodstock, Illinois (Marian Central High School) that benches 385 pounds, squats 490 pounds, and reports a 4.2 GPA.

In other words, Cwynar is damn strong and smart at the same time.

But the important thing is production, right? After all, Tom Brady didn’t exactly have the measurables everyone was looking for coming out of college, but he turned out alright.

The good thing for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, of whom Cwynar has already verbally committed to, is that he has been very productive in high school.

We’re talking 102 tackles and 17 sacks as a junior.

Thus, it’s no surprise that Cwynar made it onto the 2008 Rivals 250. He’s also considered the 10th best defensive tackle in the nation, the fourth best player coming out of the entire state of Illinois, and the second best pass rushing defensive tackle prospect in the 2008 class.

Cwynar turned down loads of other schools in order to become part of the Notre Dame family. We’re talking about schools like the Purdue Boilermakers, Virginia Cavaliers, Wisconsin Badgers, Illinois Fighting Illini, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Unfortunately for Cwynar, his senior high school season ended earlier than expected (team went to the semifinals). The good thing is that he will be enrolling early at Notre Dame in the hopes of getting some playing time.

Got a feeling about this guy. Keep him on your radar. The thought is that he may be way better than his four star status and lack of inclusion on the Rivals 100 might indicate. After all, he was named Mr. Football for Illinois this season.
